Are you ready for Father's Day?

Thoughtful Things

Are you ready for Father's Day?
June 9, 2011

It's Father's Day coming up Sunday June 19th, have you bought the Father in your life that perfect gift yet? Say what.... you bought him a neck tie again??? How many tie's have you bought for him over the years?

What if every birthday when you were growing up your dad bought you the same thing and only spent $10 to $20 bucks on your gift? Would you feel like he took the time to be thoughtful or would you feel like he was just doing it because he had to? So for a moment, turn the tables and put yourself in his shoes.

While you were growing up, he worked long hard hours to provide a home and food on the table for you to eat. He bought you clothes and even bought you that cool bike when you turned 7. He went that extra mile when you wanted to turn out for sports and paid that entry fee. He bailed you out of trouble when you could pay for a ticket you got when you turned 16 and borrowed the family car. He even helped put you through college and paid for those long distance bills when you called home to ask mom how to cook and do laundry. Actually, dad put out a lot more than $20 a year for you, don't you think he deserves more than just another neck tie?

This year, show your Father how special he is to you, and I'm not talking about just spending more money on him to get him a cooler gift, I'm talking about breaking the mold. Get him a Father's Day card that says more, maybe even go to the Photo shop and have them print up a special card for you so you can say it with a picture.

Or make a mini poem book that says what a great Father he has been to you by visiting http://www.shutterfly.com and doing something even more original. You can even go to your local Walgreens and have them whip something up for you real quick and avoid the shipping issues. But whatever you decide to do for him, make sure that it says one thing....

"Dad,  thank you for all those years you worked so hard and took the time to teach me what I needed to grow up and be a productive human being in this world. I hope this shows you how much I love you, because there isn't anyone else in this world that deserves this more than you do."

Dad will know that you really mean it this year when you say "Happy Father's Day" and it will make up for all of those neck ties he has hanging in the back of his closet that he only wears when he knows you're coming over for dinner!
